I've lived with them.

I know what there like.

They beleive if your not one of them, your a problem.

What is religion?  I don't normally go down this path, but I just had to toss my 2 pence into the pot.
Religion is unfortunately man trying to explain his reasons for being, and unfortunately, controlling what others should believe.
I believe that each and every person should make that decision for themselves and not be sheep, but I know that will not happen, because it is all too easy to just follow along and take the easy path.  Part of the learning experience should be teaching our kids how to think for themselves and provide guidance when necessary.  I grew up in the Roman Catholic experience and the guilt trip that is continually pressed upon its members is what drove me away from the organized portion of the religion.  I try and be positive in my actions in my daily life because the alternative is not something I like to live with.  Beware, because being positive does not mean being passive, or innocent, because I will positively defend my right to my opinion and my person.  All my travel around the world tells me that while living the USA is not utopia, it is so much better than many of the other options.  How did I get down this path?  Stepping off the soapbox now.
Religion is a group of like minds who believe similarly, and because sheep like to flock, religion grows.

It is an originally good intentioned set of guidelines for living life, that have been bartardised by zealots and narcissistic superiorists. Any man truly knows in his heart the difference between right or wrong, until he is poisoned by a man-made doctrine that insinuates that those that disagree with his man-mad doctrine are the enemies of his so-called "good"/God, which in fact may be pure evil. Jealousy, greed and self-slathery, contempt, hatred, dishonesty, disparity and desperation are the true legacies of man-made religion. Despicable doctrines used to justify all form of heinous and wrongful activity. The newest, and most far reaching excuse for these behaviours being globalism, corporatism and capitalism.
Any man or woman can look into their own soul and truly know he has sinned. Religion gives him an excuse to justify it.
The whole middle-east bunfight is an escalation of tribal mistrusts stirred up by the corporate capitalists, pitting each against the other to pinch their oil or other wealth. The west only has itself to blame for Islamic extremism.
Whether it is religion in the classic sense, or the doctrines of greed, they are the true enemies of mankind. None are righteous or even constructive.
You need to go back to the various world-wide indigenous tribal laws and lore to understand the meaning of what is good for all and good for the planet. All were far superior and more just than the corrupted doctrines that excuse bad behaviour. Even those of the so-called "savage" head-hunters.
