Go Up Go Down

One of the most unusual treasures I've ever found was on the Pacific coast hear a hidden cove that was a hiding place for pirates, off amd on for centuries. I was detecting on a small island, maybe 100 or more yards from the beach. I got a faint signal. Buried were 52 emeralds and a piece of Tumbaga, which was the only reason I got a signal at all. The emeralds were of various weights, running from 2 to 3.5 carats. All were in a very early cut style, used after facating was first invented in the middle of the 1400's or 1500's. Some I sold for $5000 each. Some I had mounted in great Jewelry and my wife gave several away to family and friends. LOL. I hope you enjoy the photos. Some were sent to Zale's in New York for apprasial. All were of great clairity and color. I've since seen plenty of emeralds (gallons) in Brazil, both cut and uncut.
I always felt that they were buried in a bag and hidden by some unlucky pirate that never returned to recover the cache.

I had to look up Tumbaga as I'd never heard of it before. So the pirate must have looted some old Spanish galleon. His share of the booty. That's about the most beautiful cache I've ever seen - I can only imagine the excitement you must have felt.
