Thanks for bringing that up. Yes the PTC thermistor should be mounted near the mosfet. Also be sure to mount the mosfet on some type of heatsink. As large as your enclosure will permit. The mosfet does not get very warm because of the 4% duty cycle, but less heat is even better. The ptc works by limiting base current as the mosfet warms up thereby stabilizing the peak  output I have designed a lot of drift compensation into the detector, so some of my circuits may not seem clear..
glad to help.
Golddust.

A bad day at gold prospecting or metal detecting is better than a good day at work.

hi guys one of my thoughts on keeping  the  electronics cool especially when running @ higher voltages was using a  peltier   module to keep the  internals cool  and running at optimum

No one wants to carry around a battery that can produce the current required.   A cooler Cooled with a Current peltier device will run down a truck battery in  hours.

 peltier Consumer products[edit]
Peltier elements are commonly used in consumer products. For example, Peltier elements are used in camping, portable coolers, cooling electronic components and small instruments. The cooling effect of Peltier heat pumps can also be used to extract water from the air in dehumidifiers. A camping/car type electric cooler can typically reduce the temperature by up to 20°C (36°F) below the ambient temperature. With feedback circuitry, peltiers can be used to implement highly stable temperature controllers that keep desired temperature within +/-0.01 Celsius. Such stability may be used in precise laser applications to avoid laser wavelength drifting as environment temperature changes. Climate-controlled jackets are beginning to use Peltier elements.[9][10] Thermoelectric coolers are used to replace standard heat sinks for microprocessors because they actively cool the module while heat sinks only provide passive cooling.  Wink

with advances in  l ion battery tech battery weight is not as much a factor as it used to be so running  higher current and voltage  to get more  depth is  more expensive than lead  but doable.

We had them 20 years ago in locomotive cab fridges. Ran at 72V and drew a lot of current. With the 2700 hp diesels they didn't worry about the current. Smiley Of course when you make cool you also have to get rid of the corresponding heat.

Hi golddustcarl

You say: "Do not use derived power supplies.". What here exact mean "derived"? That "Do not use something like step up or step down converter"?

Suppose that "derived" is not related to regulated power supply?
I am planning to use 12V battery pack, so I need 10V and 5V voltage regulators too.

Do you have your proposal of 12V power supply in schematic? Thanks.

Our policy is not to delete posts but yours is not on topic. It seems to me there may be a language barrier so perhaps that's all that is amiss here.

Hello golddustcarl,

Are you still active on this project? No more answers from you.

What was your solution for "new PI idea" power supply. Can you share schematic for your PS proposal with us?
