Xavier:

Got the sheet, all is clear now. Sorry about being late getting back but I have been doing battle with some critters that are determined to make a meal out of my veggie garden before I do.

On the detector scene I'm waiting for some pre-sensitized board material to do the boards and get moving.  I tried do the negative spray resist thing but results were less that ideal.  I think I have all the parts so getting the boards done will mean flying elbows getting it built.

Y'all take care,
Dennis Wise

Can you run 1 single wire (coaxial) for the coil cable or run 2 wires?
AND
Does the negative from the speaker go to the negative on the headphone jack or the switch to turn the speaker off when using the jack

Thanks Everyone I could not do this without all of your help...

Hi Vdubber

Neg speaker is neg weather you have it on the jack plug or not don't matter if you make a coil of one turn you'll have one hell of a big coil rather stick to a 1m x 1m coil if you are looking for large objects at depths for small objects use small coils.

Regards Xavier

Hi Gramps43

Glad to hear that you have got all your parts as for the spray resist it works very well under these conditions 1) you have to rum the board down with steel wool 2) use latex gloves if you are going to handle it even when rubbing it down 3) before using the spray rub it down with acetone allow to dry for a few min then apply a very thin film of the resist 4) use 7 gr of caustic soda to 1 litre of water (do not re use) the board should be developed within a few seconds depending on ambient temperature 5) when etching the board use a piece of sponge soaked in ferric chloride and rub the board with it you will have a better and faster result 6) once you are happy with the etching clean the board with acetone and your done.

Regards Xavier

thanks for the reply,
got the jack working

Now I have it half way in box
and a new problem
When I connect the coil or have the coil connected and flip the switch it blows the fuse...
Now I'm sure on the following:
PCB traces
Soldier connections with no shorts
Diode direction
75% sure on transitors 2n3773 bidirectional?
Coil 1m X 1m 3.8 omhs flat wires
All ICs are in correct

thanks

Use a 800 mA fuse also check that you have the LF 357 in correctly and set the trim-pot  to mid point you should have 8 turns on your coil 2n3773 only goes in one way check out the data sheet

set P1 and P2 to mid point in fact you should set them all at mid point to start with also make sure that you have no short in your coil 2n3773 should remain cool once you have it running replace the fuse with 500mA

2n3773 was installed correctly but I have a bad feeling about it
With the collector unhooked from 2n3773 and the coil is hooked up the fuse is ok but attach the collector and byebye fuse
Now with one unhooked their is a clicking every 5 secs from the speaker

Are you sure that you have it the right way round?(2n3773) if you look at the pin's side of it you will see that the pins are more to one side than the other looking at it with the short side to your left pin one is at the bottom that is base pin two is at the top that is emitter and collector is the body.
