THANKS . . xavier. . . nd thanks ..  ( ram ). . you probably asked better questions than i could. . . . anyway been busy talking to nieghbour ..  showed him the schematics etc.. . he says he can put it together. .and knows what the parts are etc etc !! Undecided . . . so ive been busy collecting bits nd pieces !!  so ive got very sore and burnt fingers at the moment . . . hahahaha. . . . all part of the learning curve i suppose Idiot nd still got quite a few more to collect. . . .. . BUT ..best of all no cost from my nieghbour. .  Grin  yippee  . . .however i did tell him i would provide enough to make 2. . . so cost so far 7.00 quid  ( 2 x matrix boards 160 x 100 mm)  but will need another 2 smaller ones at a later date !! he also told me its not an over night project. . and will take a week or two to put together when i get all the parts  !!!. . will let you know how it goes over the next month . . will post pics aswell when able too... . . . . and again thanks . . . .xavier

hi . . ram....

there are laws here in uk for metal detecting. . . the newest one being. . Code of Practice on Responsible Metal Detecting england and wales. . . ( got to get permission from land owner etc and report finds . . or and keep off special sites ) but no licence required. . that was scrapped in 1980 or so. . but you do need a certificate for searching on the beach which is obtainable from the ( crown estates )   . . . .  i already filled the form in online a week or so back. . . no cost. . . . anyone else know of anything different , , then please have your say . . . . . . . .

I mainly use a 280mm coil as I do not have the use for such a large coil at the moment, how ever I did build a 500 x 500mm coil just to see what would be the difference in an air tests. What I have found is that the 280mm coil will give me about 1.5m on a large object and the 500mm coil about 2.7m on the same object. I only use the 280mm coil with the power set to 3/10  threshold on 8 and sensitivity on 10 for my inland detection (nothing is much deeper than 150mm)  but on the beach I change all my settings for greater depth
