Hi fellas and gals,

Anyone have experience with the Cors Shrew delta coils for Tesoro? They make a 6.5 x 3.5 elliptical coil for the Vaquero that is no longer made by Tesoro. I was thinking of getting one.

They stopped making the smaller size eliptical widescan 4 pin coil sometime ago, and have no plans to make any more. I talked to a factory rep in Prescott. The only one available is the larger 7 x 10 eliptical widescan. The smaller one sometimes shows up on ebay, but you have to be watching canstantly. Because it gets so well into tight spots, like playground eqipment, and bushes and rocks, everyone wants one.

Thanks RR.  I think at $122 for new with warranty, it is not too bad of a deal. I just have not heard of the company or the coil, and was wondering about the quality and sensitivity. It looks good in the pix, and in the writeup., but if it is a piece 'o' crap, I don't need it.

Thanks for encouragement everyone. I will wait awhile to see if anyone else has any info. Might have to be the first one here to do a writeup on it.

Well got no more answers, so I bought one. $122. I have only tested it once so far. I did an air test, then took it to a tot lot. Here is my review:
First thoughts were the small size was what I wanted  but it was much thicker than expected, so weight was more than expected. It is alligator and gorilla tough. A coil cover was included as well as a storage cover for the plug to keep moisture and dirt out. The small size gets into tight spots easily.
Air test: Detected a .03 gram nugget at 4 inches. All metal mode. Sensitivity was good though depth was reduced slightly as was expected. I will do more testing and give further details.

Dusty 4" on a 0.03 gram bit is bloody good for a normal VLF, what frequency is that machine ?? that's more than I get with the MXT with the standard 10 DD, I don't have any small coils so I can't do a side by side test to see if it matches your results, I would say that coil is a keeper even more so for Gold Great

good luck mate,

good luck mate,

The Vaquero runs at 10.5kHz. I used all metal mode and headphones for the test. The size of the coil is 6.5" x 3.5" and it is DD. Pretty small. The original Tesoro Lobo had a 4" x 7" that would work on the Vaquero. so this is a little smaller. CORS sells coils for other detectors too. You can google their home site and see if they make one for one of your machines. And yes gold is what I purchased it for as well as for tot lots in them small areas, and around rocky terrain. More tests will prove whether it belongs in my tool arsenal, but so far it looks good.
