Enameled wire is ok . You don't have to encase the wire although it may be done later on .   Cornelius

OK so I turn it on and the high pitched sound starts right away,  I can adjust the volume, but when I turn the Sens knob to the left, it does nothing to the high pitch sound and turning it to the right doesn't seem to effect it either.
When I took it apart the only wires I had to desolder was the power connection , also reconnected the headphone jack but that's it , didn't do anything to the Sens knob
So if some of the wires in the coil had shorted to each other when I built it, would it prevent the Sens knob from doing its job.??

would this problem continue if I disconnected the coaxial connection from the detector, should the sens knob work then, with no coil connected

No Ali you have to have the coil connected . What you can do is to find out the resistance in the length of Cu wire you used  and than measure the resistance with a  Volt meter ( which usually has a setting for  Ohms ) . If there is a great difference in the readings you have found the error .  But.... I cannot understand why you have all these problems . The detector was checked by me before I sent it to you . You must have make somekind of mistake somewhere . I cannot help you anymore because I am not there to help you . It must be something you did yourself . So start thinking about what you did .  Cornelius

Xavier, the wire that I used was enameled wire to tie them up, it's insulated. Is that not OK?
