Aliman I have sent you the data sheet's for the 12 and 5 volt regulators if you are looking at them from the flat side you must measure left pin for the 79L05 and right pin for the 78L12 you have them the wrong way round or you are not measuring from the flat side of the regulator if like you say you are measuring left leg on the 78L12 then you are looking at Vin and not Vout same goes for the 79L05 How ever you are getting a voltage if you did not you could not get an audio out on the head phones. Try this measure the two outside pins on the 79L05 and measure the centre pin and the right pin on the 78L12 then tell me what you get.

on the 79L05 data sheet you sent me is the same one I have. It shows the COMMON on the Left side looking at the flat face.
Do you want me to test the COMMON,  OUTPUT is on right side.?
I'm a little confused .
Xavier, I did as you said and measured 79L05 two outside pins, the left side measured 0V and the right side measured -1.64
On the 78L12 the center pin measured 0V, and the right pin measured -9.8V

Your reading are inconsistent with the regulators.

Battery is wrong or both regulators are toast.

Are you checking from Ground pin of the regulators to output pin?

Aliman you should have 12V and -5V switch on the detector then check the voltage on the batteries you should have 9V and 18v your batteries are in series there for if you check ground pos of first battery then pos second battery you should read 9 volts and 9 volts then neg and pos should give you 18 volts Remember all ways check your batteries under load never with no load as you will have an incorrect reading. How did you conect your batteries?

the batteries are in series.
On 79L05 ,from output pin to ground pin I measured -1.82v
On 78L12 ,from output pin to ground pin I measured 0.3v

I think both regulators are fried.

Ok, now that makes sense. What other checks should I do? The High pitch sound is alright,
but VR2(Sens Knob) doesn't seem to do anything.
Ready to follow instructions........
