Our club is going to take a 3-day trip to Erie, Pa to treasure hunt on the beach.  Anybody ever do this & what do you think our chances are to find treasure from the sunken ship(s) there?  Thanks.  Smiley

Hi Buttoneer,
Back in the middle 70s, Whites distributer, Blanchard's did some treasure hunting in the Erie area. Don't remember much as to what they found.

Good luck.

Jim

It'd be worth digging into some of the old treasure hunting magazines from that period.....should find them in a good library.

Threre should be some write ups somewhere. Maybe even an old Whites newsletter as Blanchards was a big time distributor.

Hi After trying during a trip every year,I hunt 3 hours a day all over the ISle and other beaches around erie nd never find a penny! Find aluminum pellets, very lightweight that wash up,but nothing more. Pull tabs, cans can find alot of junk along the beach where the tides come and go. The REAL treasure is the sea glass, people roam the beaches looking for the colored pieces of glass. Crafters make things out of it, a local jeweler makes jewelry out of it for high prices! We just hunker down and scan the sand for glass. More fun than not finding anything on the beach with a detector. I did find 13 cents around the park by the Perry Monument.

Thanks Kurt.  I will be sure to look for that sea glass.  I can make jewelry out of it.
Well, after a too short 3-day trip to Erie, Pa, we returned home with about 10 various-sized pieces of beach glass, a golf ball, a 1977 penny, some coral fossils and a whole bunch of that beautiful pink jasper that is all over the place.  One of our club members found a couple of gorgeous coral fossils, another member found a cobalt blue whiskey flask with a cork in it, an American Eagle and a shield on the front and a cornucopia on the reverse.  Unfortunabely, it had a hole in it with cracks and I suggested she put some super glue on the cracks to keep them from spreading.  I would love to go back to erie someday.  We never did get to Presque Isle because there wasn't enough time.  It was a 6-hour drive from Carlisle, Pa to Erie, Pa and we were able to hit a couple beaches Friday afternoon and all day Saturday.  By the way, that Super Chinese Buffet is great!  Even has Frog legs.  Thanks for all the answers and input.
