On what kind of paper is the Confederate note printed? Is it very thin - sort of flimsy?

Look around the edges just outside of the printed area. A facsimile will have that word printed there in blue ink. Usually on the back side.

cool thanks , Just came back froma meeting with some cohorts who als detect and on of them found a post 45 G.A. R. star grave marker in the woods near a very old not even visible or marked cemetary. she is going to send me some photos before ,during and after cleaning. process. I saw this item what a cool find. We hope to clean preserve it and return to the rightful gravestone. this still has the slots on the back to hold a flag. and maybe a foot of the post below star. will post photos as soon as possible.
Chris is exited to share it ,and hopes she can return it. I suggested warm soappy water then a long soak in either olive , veggie  oil no harsh abrrasives. any suggestions would be very much apreciated.we hope to clean it right.

Good rule of thumb, but unfortunately NOT always the case.   Just like not all replica coins (especially if made prior to 1973) have "COPY" stamped on them.

By the way, the good news is that the serial number on the $5 is not on any of the known reproduction lists that I've seen so far (although I'm sure I've only scratched the surface).
