Go Up Go Down

While the wife and I were on our recent roadtrip, we stumbled on this place in Holbrook.   We actually hit it from the back side as we were turning south off of Bucket of Blood street.   We thought the back side was so interesting that we just had to take pictures.   What is not apparent from these shots taken by leaning out of the treasure wagon--the far end of the building has bare adobe walls.   It is pretty clear from the architecture that the place probably started as a typical ranch house, then expanded into a Hotel which outgrew the original ranch house so the block addition was added......and then traffic started picking up on Route 66, so motor court rooms were added (or in some cases it appears that stables and other out buildings were converted for use as motor court rooms).   Any way, here are a couple of pictures of the back side of the place and a copy of a post card of it in its hayday.

So far, I haven't been able to come up with any of that information off of the internet or in the books I have access to.   If I can't find the answers in either the main Phoenix library or the Arizona State University library, it may wait until my next trip up to that part of the state.   I know even less about the building that I'm planning on posting pictures of tomorrow.
