well, I'm pretty clear now that looking for treasure in the money pit = throwing money in a bottomless pit-----so don't come asking me to be an investor for the next search of Oak Island

Hello BA

It is just interesting to see how these legends evolve. It is really amazing how in a very short period of time real events can be twisted by rumor and innuendo into some thing else.

There is no official term for this I like to call it "Yama syndrome"

personally, I think this particular topic should be required reading for everyone looking for "legendary" treasure... if people would just apply some of the logic used on this board in discussing some of the treasures they are searching for, they'd find they have a lot more time available to look for real treasures.   Working through the discussions on this particular board has been some of the most valuable education I've received on the entire forum.

Hello all

The oak island history of its treasure huns is a classic example and we can all learn from it.

Whole life's ruined by the presumption of buried treasure based on rumor and innuendo by people with their own agendas. Obsession by treasure hunters who did not know when to quit.

There is cardinal rule when seeking legendary treasure. Look for evidence to see if there is any treasure to start with.

Trying to find something without knowing what it is a recipe for disaster.

Hardluck

I agree plus add the debated we had about the lost Dutchman and Capt. Kidd all good stuff that folks can learn from us old timers also. I have learned something on each of these debates.

Every year one or two groups are lost while looking for the lost Dutchman, Why because they see a cave on google earth and go off half cocked. The Yammy hunters just start digging holes. The KGC hunters go looking for signs that were never there. Hardluck I guess when dreams start common sense goes out the window.

Hello All

I would be a liar to say I have not been guilty of impatience of my youth and made many of those mistakes. Now after more than a life time for some I realized that it is much more complicated researching treasure legends.

Back then I only saw the prize and not the process of searching for the prize.

You can learn much from this site if you take heed of some of the hard learned lessons, we can learn from the history of those previous treasure hunters who has done all of the mistakes. We can see many examples of this in legendary treasures.

We have the most unique chance in history through the internet to Research, debate listen to other peoples comments because some times they will see some things differently. Right or wrong it does not matter as it helps you understand human nature, history and technique.

But most of all it makes you better equipped to research these treasure stories.

Their past failures can be our enlightenment

Hardluck

Yeah, but if you add  the Lost gold shipment West Africa 1946 topic
(

) which is still being worked (though we seem to have hit some roadblocks for the time being) you also get a good schooling on how to follow multiple leads in searching out what still may be a valid treasure lead.....so we're not all doom and gloom.

Can't beat the education you get here, can you?

You said a mouth full there. I research and hunt the small unknown ones to pay the bills, but can't stop from researching the big legends for my own enjoyment and to share with the folks here.

We all get obsessed with one or two treasures in our life's  and can't give up the hunt. Mine is one I have worked off and on since 1971. Is it there I think so, will I recover it pr not and if I did and sold it at the best price I would still be in the hole. I have spent 1000's on gas, copy's, motels and a divorce in the early days. But I have meet a lot of people in the area and all the research lead to several other recovery's so its not all bad.
