There is no such thing as a dumb question but there is such a thing as an incomplete one.

Tell us what you plan to find or want to find. The "best" detector type depends entirely what you are looking for.

hello

I'm looking at very old places
In some territories, brick contains a high proportion of iron
What is the ideal detector? To detect in those places

There is good sense in remaining aloof and not giving away your secret spot. Nobody is looking for that. Here is our problem in giving you advice. The following factors will influence your choice of a detector.

1. There is no such thing as a dream detector that will work in all circumstances for all types of targets. Although, a PI (Pulse Induction) detector comes close. The downfall for this type of detector is that it is difficult to fund one with discrimination that works.

2. Soil type is a factor in choosing.

3. Average weather conditions are a factor. Is it hot and dry? Rainy?

4. Are you looking for artifacts? Relics? Coins? Gold?

5. How strong is your detector arm? Some units are extremely heavy.

6. What is your skill level? Are you just beginning? Have you used any particular model in the past?

I'm in a bit of a hurry right now so I prboably missed a few factors. Someone else will be along in a short while to pick this up.

Lets not forget that the Welcome Stranger nugget 3123oz 6dwts 9gr(97.14kg) found by the guy "tripping over" it.
