I live in the texas hill country around bandera/boerne and was wondering if anybody knew of any places to hunt old homesteads,schools, places to metal detect, that I could go to without getting into any trouble.?  Also looking for a metal detecting/treasure hunting club to hook up with. Any info would be great!. Thanks---steve

  Welcome from New Mexico.   Have a look around in our Beginners board.  Also we have listed by States.   If I was you, I would hit the Library and check out what you can find.   Look for exactly what you asked for and Ghost Towns.   Look for old Maps of your Area.   Look for things that are not any More.   Remember Private and State Properties are a No No without Permission.   

This should get you started but your Library is better.

In Texas just about everything is private property-----so get to know folks and learn to ask permission.   State parks in Texas are officially off-limits, unless you have special permission.   I know that in San Antonio city parks metal detecting is by permit only and the permits are restricted to specific parks.

but COUNTY parks in Bexar county are off limits.....so it's definitely a situation where you are going to have to check regulations carefully for the county and the town you want to hunt in as to whether they allow it.

I guarantee there are some great places to hunt between Bandera and Llano......if you can get permission.   I've got a couple of places near Llano, that I'm looking into myself for the next time I go back to the Hill Country.
