Hello
First post on this forum.
Did look a little under the prospecting area and did not see much about people with rock crushers any suggestions?
Also where should one look to read about prospecting with a 'pipe locator' (two box metal detectors)?  Detecting
Thank you for such a great forum.  Smiley

What type of Crusher are you looking for.  Jaw ?  Stamp?  DIY ?    Two box detectors I'm sure we have some info on.  Most would be Home Builds I think.

Hello
Jaw crusher.  I have one rebuilt from the late 30-40's.  Wondering if there are a few on this forum that go out with rock crushers of any type?
Will have to look a little more about the two box metal detectors.
Thank you for the reply homefire.   Cool

Hello
A good idea there homefire.  A old used large Christmas tree stand can work good as well.

Hello
Thank you for the greeting 'there mate' Mick.  Grin

Have not yet done much crushing yet as the cost of rebuilding the jaw crusher cost and time of rebuild was just over three times the expected amount.  Most machinist do not have equipment big enough to do the job.
This one is now in the process of hand making a small trailer for the small 400 pound (00 size) jaw crusher to travel down small trails. About the size of a smaller engine block.  May post some pictures of the trailer some time soon?
Also plan on machining a set of small rolls to help with the powdering process in the field.  Clapp

How much materials are you planning on processing ?

Jaw Crushers don't get you down to powder I would be wanting.

Impact Grinders as better in my thinking.

Hello
Thank you for the link for a homemade impact mill homefire.

Yes Jaw crushers as a general rule do not crush much finer then around 4-15 mesh size.  A impact mill, ball mill, or a set of rolls all can be used at this stage for finer mesh size depending on time, portability, dust, and how far one decides to powder the material.  As a general guide or rule the finer the mesh size the more minerals / metals will be released in a given sample.
Depending on the hardness and fracturing qualities of the rock may help with the process and tools used in a given area.  For example one may find that there will be less downtime if one "hard face's" the jaw plates of a rock crusher or say the wear ring of a impact mill.  A jaw crusher can go through a lot of rock with only general maintenance and replacement of just the jaw plates, this may not be the case with other types of tools.

The main idea of this jaw crusher is to sample say less then one ton to many tons quickly to help determine if the Ore is worth the time and work.   Moving the rock sample as little as possible that can cost a lot of time, energy and money.
What kind of experiences do others have out there?
