Seben not working looking on ebay for a bargain

Go Up Go Down

Hello everybody. It's been a while since I last got hooked into a forum. The last ones (3) were about the Urantia book, but I have moved on from there. I keep an eye on "marketwatch" but have only posted once, got disalusioned when I realised the markets are manipulated by the big banks. I expect the possibility of a war if and when the stock market goes bust, I hope not.
It is because of purchasing a dud metal detector that I am now studying electronics. When the price of gold went sky high I began looking around Ebay for a suitable detector. Novice that I am, I got hooked by the hype of the Seben brand, to say it was disappointment is not the word I would like to use, however, I have not been out looking for treasure. My time has been taken up by trying repair the thing.

His country? It's known as Australia. Tasmania is a state here. Like Kansas or Florida is in America.

Hello All

A Tasmanian friend of mind refers to Australia being a big island off Tasmania Grin

Seriously the place has amazing places to visit down there. Well worth the visit.

Hi Shadowman7,

Welcome from sunny Arizona.    I think for most Americans the first thing that comes to mind when we think of Tasmania is Warner Brothers' Tasmanian Devil.  And if we dig deeper into our minds beyond that, most of us can remember hearing about a Tasmanian Wolf, although we may or may not remember that it is a marsupial and not a canine.  And a few may even have heard something about Tasmania some how being connected to the exploration of Antarctica.  So, we really are curious about the state of Tasmania and look forward to post of your finds from there.

Aggie, it was occasionally referred to as a wolf long ago but more commonly today as the Tasmanian Tiger, a marsupial, hunted to extinction in the early 1900s. There are true believers in the creature surviving today, living secretively in the dense forests of Tasmania. The official name of this ill fated critter is thylocine and there are rumors of surviving cats in the dense forests of Western Australia as well. If you see one, don't try to pet it.

Those who like to call it a wolf put the first site above together. There are many using the term tiger as well. See the second link for a government source.

GD, thanks for the links.  When I wrote the post, I toyed with using "Tasmanian Tiger" but figured while less correct more American would recognize it as "wolf"......(I'm very glad that "opossum hyena" and "zebra opossum" never really caught on since I'd continually confuse them with America's marsupial).    For those true believers who expect the thylacine to be a terrestial coelacanth, all I've got to say is it is a lot easier to hide a moderately large animal in the ocean than it is on an island---even if that island happens to be the 26th largest in the world.

I don't know about other people, but most of my knowledge of Tasmania came from curling up in my grandfather's living room  in the 1960's and reading his old leather bound National Geographics dating back to the First World War.

So I remain curious (but a little more knowledgeable now)

Thanks for welcome,
I am originally a Pom, emigrated to Australia in 58. However it has only been 7 years ago that I discovered Tasmania. I think of it as a country in it's own right and refer to mainlanders as Australian. I was quite surprised when I got here that Tassie had paved roads and good ones too, Much better than many of Victorian and New South Wales roads.

I reckon that the thilocine could be still roaming in the World Heritage Reserve, there are places where no man has trod.

What is the “Hope”, a shipwreck? There are hundreds around Tasmania and all marked on the tourist maps.
Not a diver though.

I live in Burnie at present, there are some beautiful Jasper and Agate pebbles on the beaches here. I joined the lapidary club in Burnie and met a very interesting German guy, believe it or not his name is Adolph.
Adolph told me where he found lots of fine gold by washing in seawater; at an outcropping tor called “Doctors Rocks”, I haven't had the opportunity to test his claims yet, I am still working on this dud Seben MD5002. I am learning a lot about electronics and have spent enough on it to buy a decent model.

Once again thanks everyone for the great welcome, I will be sure to come back with more news, hopefully something of more interest to you.

Hello Shadowman7

Near the mouth of the Derwent River (between Betsey Island and the Iron Pot – now known as Hope Beach) the ship 'Hope' was wrecked on the 29th April 1827 which is supposed to have been carrying a chest of coins valued at ₤30,000 for the troops stationed at Hobart.

Legend has it the two soldiers tasked with guarding the treasure buried the treasure in secret. The 2 soldiers were eventually posted to India where one died of fever. the other returned to Ireland where years later as an old man he told the story of the theft and gave the directions to find the treasure to a farmer.

The Farmer came to Hobart to search for the treasure. He was curious character that roamed the foreshore for thew treasure for years but never found the treasure.

Generations of young and not so young Hobartians have searched for fun along the fore shores. As far as it is known no one reported any discovery of treasure.
