No one said that. But you need different tools for different jobs

if good enough for nato, it must have been built to a high standard

Your detector has been designed for a specific task. Never had one but i am guessing it will beep to the smallest and any type of metal.
If you are detecting on the beach then it shouldn’t be much of a problem as it’s very easy to dig in the sand.
But in a park well... you figure it out.
To put it in prospective it’s like pulling a twin axle caravan with your mini Morris.
Spent some time to learn the machine. Take it to the beach and give it a go.
You may be surprised.
Then let us know

hey no worries ,its just me ,thought I had got a better one than I could (within my budget)
but will give it a try-out and see if it finds anything (other than scrap) mind you at todays prices a big pile of scrap would prob pay for it
I am looking to find something that makes it a bit easer to hold than the pole it comes with
thanks again
 steve

Steve, if you follow the general suggestions found in some of the posts on the beginners board, that detector of yours should pay for itself.  How long it will take will depend upon a lot of factors:
1) How often you use it
2) How well you get to know it (to some extent a factor of #1)
3) Where you hunt----which is in large part a matter of how much time you spend researching hunt sites and how good you get at asking for permission to hunt on private property.
4) How carefully you search (do you swing widely and search randomly or do you take a disciplined approach--especially once you've started finding "keepers")
5) Luck....and, yes, it enters the picture for all detectorists, even the very methodical, since your coil has to pass over the target to detect it and everyone has some gaps in their pattern.

The biggest key is not to get discouraged.  If you aren't having "luck", turn the trip into a learning experience where you concentrate on technique.....your "luck" might change in a matter of minutes and if not, the lessons you learn carry over to the next trip.

AND the lessons you learn using this detector will (mostly) carry over to your next detector.

as for something that makes it easier to hold, unless you have a hip mount or chest mount option, which I don't think you do, look into a "swingy-thingy" or similar bungee-based apparatus designed to change the center of gravity.

belated welcome from Kansas, Stevie. I tried to read it all, but probably missed some. Don't be discouraged about your machine at all! Some of the most successful hunters on this board do not discriminate even now, after years in the field. I.E. discriminate aluminum poptops and you will walk away from gold rings. Have fun and get to know your machine!

I can't find one online, so I suggest you contact Guartel Technologies, ltd.

If the "manufacturer" can't provide a manual, it is doubtful anyone can.

thanks have just phoned them, they are going to see what they have still available & get back to me,
in the meantime looking at ways to make it more easy to carry and use, thinking of using top end of alloy crutch(part that's shaped)sim to new metal detectors just unsure as to if its going to pick the metal up (as most if not all of detector shaft is carbon fibre ,saying that control box is metal and is carried over shoulder about waist high ?
