I just read about using electrolysis to clean coins.  I have some Roman coins (300AD) that are mostly lumps of green and I was wondring if electrolysis was saf to use on such an old coin

Hi Homefire should have known you would be able to help me.
Thank you for the site you mentioned.
I went to England and dug up some Roman coins that were sitting in a fertelized field.
Some are pretty rough and some I can see the emperor on the coin.
I was hoping to get some detail out of the greenies I have but don't want to loose them to mistreatment.
I also found a state minted coin 1778 and did nothing to protect it except put it into a coin folder.
It seems to be deteriorating. I can make out the Indian holding the arrows and the date but if i "Clean" it I might wash away what I can see right now.
THoughts?

Try the True and Tested Months long soak in olive oil.   Not sure how it works but I've seen it clean up some nasty stuff before.  I think the olive oil is a wee bit acidic .
