I'm going to visit Glcier Nat. Park this summer.
I know you can't "detect on park prperty but I'm hoping someone can give me an idea as to where I might
be able to swing my detector without getting into trouble and hopefully an area that will produce something other then bottle caps and pull tabs

Yes,  National Parks are a NO GO ZONE on metal detecting  99.9% of the time.   What are you thinking of detecting ?  Gold?  Coins?  Other?  Maybe we can find you some options.

There is a book in most libraries called Campground and Battlefield which identifies where battles were fought. Most of it is for the Revolutionary War and Civil War but there are a few Indian versus Cavalry battles in it. In Montana there are many places commemorating such battles. Now, that battleground may be off limits but remember, both sides had to cook, clean and sleep before it started and neither side wanted to have their campground disturbed or even known, if possible. So, find a battleground and look for areas nearby where the terrain is right for supporting large numbers of soldiers or warrieors. They would need nearby water, slightly elevated terrain and access to wooded areas for game.

Put your thinking cap on and you'll see why we here are passionate about our hobby. Of course, you already know that.

Hi Homefire:
I knew I could rely on you to reply.
I'm not choosy.  I didn't think about GOLD but anything of nterest is up for consideration

Hello Gold digger:
THanks for the advice.
We'll be flying into Montana so unles I know where I can go, with some degree of expecting success. I won't be taking my detecting "stuff"
I was hoping  for some "local insight"
I know how "protective" we all are about where to shoot but somtimes there are spots that can be comfortably shared.
Thanks again

The USCGD Survey maps are free. If you use the book I mentioned, you can get a map of the area before you go. The tax office will have private land ownership information.

Do not go where everyone else has gone. Make your own path to success.
