It detects other metals?  Without a O scope your shooting in the dark.    Did you make this detector ?  What coil are you using ?  Independence and ohms ?    Is it a home made coil ?

With out a O-Scope all we can do is fuddle.  I have the schematic .   My guess is your Samples just are not fast enough.  Will it detect a small peace of lead like bird shot or bullet ?

Do you know anyone with a scope?  TV Repair person ?  Looking for more info.  WIll be back.

You need to do your home work.  You need to measure the Sample delay from the time the TX pulse ends to the time the sample is taken.

Let see what your delay is doing first.  Problem may just be the coil. Were did you find the coil information ?  Are you experienced in electronics ?

Did more digging for info.  Seems the Delta / Rx71 Is geared around larger coils.  What kind of coil did you make ?

Sample delay is a bit long for my liking shortest being 40uS .

The original searchcoil of the delta pulse was measured at 1000 uh [micro-heny] inductance.
Try not go below 2.4 ohms dc resistace on your search coil. As you can see on the schematic
      R51 has been added [1 ohm 1 watt]in series with T1 [IRF740]for current protection .

      A 60 cm coil is 25 turns of 0.5 mm wire .
a 42 cm coil is 29 turns of 0.5 mm wire . Always measure final DC resistance on your prototype
search coil and always try to be above 2.4 ohms . You can put a heat sink on T1 !!
      be above 2 ohms !!

In the chart it shows a Range Sense I'm not sure what that does.  Maybe someone can help with that.
