Looking from bottom of transistorsith pins facing you and flat facing up and read from left to right, it is e-b-c. If I  am wrong, please let me know
Dusty Carl

Please compare Your statement with Datasheet. In Datasheet reads c-b-e.
The way You have pictured in pcb layout, if looked at from foil side,,, compared with datasheet, wich way is transistors??? Do You see Huh?
If not, it doesn't matter, as long as You remember to solder bc547's emitter to ground and bc557's to pic pin 6, and take no notice how they drawed..

Karpiidi, you are a good man. It took a few words, but you explained it well this time. And thanks Homie for helping. It finally got thru my thick caloused head. And you are right, the bc547 is mirrored ("backwards"). The reason I did not spot it is because I  am using 2n3904 substitute which is wired as you say mirrored. I did not draw that part. It is carried over from the original board.
Thank you all, have a good day, leaving for the mountains.

A bad day at gold prospecting or metal detecting is better than a good day at work.

Well folks, I  have some good news about this circuit. It works! I built a long board version, no buzzer or leds. I subbed a vibrating motor and used a clock oscillator module, a 78L05 regulator, and the MetFM2_675. hex version of the software. In Microburn I  set the fuses to code protect off with Gpio (3) as IO. (Mclr off). I still haven't found a ferrite rod so I used a coil that had a 2200 uH value. Frequency was 21.6 kHz. Open air range was 3 inches. I suspect a ferrite rod will increase that somewhat. I don't want it to be a metal detector. I just want it to show me where in the hole I have dug the target is. After all isn't that what a "pinpointer" is supposed to be?

Hey Xavier,
What's with the zebras running loose downtown? New song title: "Who let the Zebras out?"  Grin Grin Grin

Thanks Homie. The board works good. I burned my chip the same as yours, so yours should work too. I need a ferrite rod, but can't seem to find one anywhere. I bought several old used am/fm radios but all of them had the short flat antenna bar. Have you sourced one yet? I see some longer ones on Fleabay but don't know a good way to cut one down without destroying it. They are fragile.

Would you be willing to sell it to this old codger?
