GTI 2500 Garrett

Go Up Go Down

Two weeks ago my GTI 2500 randomly began making erratic beeping noises.  I would shake it, turn it off, or reset it and most of the time the issue would disappear.  It began becomeing more frequent and today it is constantly beeping.  Please note that the coil is not connected.  Once I power it on it starts beeping.  I've tried messing with all the adjustments, frequency, sensitivity, tone, thresh, ground balance, nothing helps.  And now if I connect the coil, the noise and beeping are much worse.  Not the batteries either.  I believe it might be one of my CPU boards, but uncertain. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Go Up Go Down

It's been very humid several times I was out, but I've always tried to keep it dry.
Messed with it today a little and discovered that if I put a screwdriver up against one of the cable connector pins the noise goes away.  One specific pin, the other pins squelch loudly upon touching with screwdriver.

I've been to Garrett twice, even spent $30 for them to look at it.  Told me it was my coil, and should purchase a new coil or spend $350.00 and do the upgrade.  No suggested option of troubleshooting the CPU boards and look that direction.  So I wrote Garrett an email stressing my concerns and frustrations with the repair department.  Today they called me back and wanted me to bring it in again, still telling me that with no coil attached, the unit will make noise and search for coil.  Yet it has never done this prior.

Sounds like they know what there doing .    Try someone else s is coil if you can.   Take the Detector to a Dealer and see if they will let you do so.   Again The coil could have been compromised with water.    I'm NOT telling you to do this but if it was My Coil I would put it in the oven at say 125F for a hour or so and see if it drives off any moisture.

If it was My Coil !

Homefire.
