I hope this is the right thread to discuss this topic. Some time ago last year I purchased a vibroprobe pinpointer. I used it for awhile, and I  liked it very much, so I discussed it here on the forum. (some say bragged lol). I was asked by a member(not going to mention names), what was the sensitivity distance on a .3 gram gold nugget. So measured it and it came in at .5 inches. I did not have a Garrett pinpointer to compare, so he told me that his Garrett detected it at a much greater range than that. I congratulated him on that and told him I was satisfied with what I  have. Well lo and behold I won a new "Carrot" at a club coin hunt this weekend. Today I decided to do that test over again. My trusty old Vibraprobe still came in at .5 inches. Turned on the carrot and yes it did detect at 3 inches. AHHHH! When I retuned it to the soil, and tried it, it didn't detect it at all.I set it to level 2 and retuned gain.No sound. I set it to level 3, retuned again, and this time it detected it. It measured .5 inches same as the vibraprobe.
Now I am not going to tell you to buy one or the other because each has it's own features. Buy the one that fits where and how you are going to use it. The Vibraprobe is a PI type and works well around black sand, mineralized soil, beaches, and up too 100 feet under water. The Garrett is a Tuned Oscillator type and works well in parks, semi mineralized soils, and up to 10 feet under water. It has both sound and vibration, and several modes of operation controlled by a microprocessor as well as an LED light. It is also smaller and has a scraper blade. Both types come with holsters. Be advised on the Carrot to not use the probe as a digger. You will wear a hole in the tip which is not as thick as the rest of it. The Vibraprobe has a pipe cap on the end which can stand more of a beating, but don't use it that way.

Dusty Carl.

A bad day at gold prospecting or metal detecting is better than a good day at work.

Thank You for the Insite.   Don't know of Any Pin Pointers good at finding small Gold.   Anyone who wants to Probe around for Gold needs a Falcon.

Never owned one. Heard all kinds of good and bad about them. Prospecting for gold with a pinpointer is like trying to to dig a grave with a spoon. They have their place and like any mechanic will tell you, use the right tool for the task at hand.
