Its too hot to hunt so I decided to clean the jar of pennies I've found in the last year and a half. Here are the results, First of all I found some suprises. dimes were mixed in with the cents. also I found canadians I missed before, I found 2 with holes drilled in them, and wheats I had missed before. One 2009 log cabin cent was in the lot. For comparison I separated the coins by date. the pre 1983 coins in one pile and the clad in another. Big difference. Then I separated the non clad by date in one direction and by quality in the other. Here are the results.

Wow. Interesting collection of "hard facts" and statistical data. You really must have been yearning to be out there today.

GD, Yes I am. I did an early morning hunt today but by 10:00 I was dripping. Most days I just ride around in the airconditioned truck and look for new places to hunt when it cools off. Can't wait for the cool weather to set in. Gambol.  Rider

We're never happy, are we? I can't wait for the warmer, dryer weather but we need the rain SOOOO much.

GoldDigger, I'm only happy when I'm  Detecting unfortunately I can't take the heat anymore because I'm too  Wise that would be old. As for the rain, I can handle that. Nothing like a little shower to cool you off. Here in Florida in the summer it can rain a half inch and an hour later it's all gone. no puddles sand is damp but still very easy to dig unlike clay which may take a week to dry out. Our best season is the winter. The grass is dead,  snakes and gators in their holes, you can hunt till your arm falls off. Gambol.  Cool

You'd feel right at home here in the desert southwest where you get sand blown in your eyes while your shoulders and head are getting wet from the mud drops falling from the sky.    The grounds like concrete unless you manage to get out within 24-36 hours of a decent rain and you'll dehydrate in a matter of a couple of hours if you're not drinking while you're swinging.   Definitely prefer winter for the same reasons as you Florida folk do.

But you still have more patience with your cents than I do.....I'd rather spend my time tracking down a few more leads  Smiley

BA,  I love the desert! (In the spring). When I lived in Texas, I camped out in Big Bend N.P. Then I went on a field trip in August the next year. Came close to dying from dehydration and heat stroke when two of us took a short  walk away from camp in the middle of the day with 2 canteens each! We made the mistake of trying to climb out of a box canyon. Winter is best for sure. gambol

Looks like battery money to me   Wink
I, like you, am surprised at the number of dimes I pull out of the dirty cent pile.
My eyes aren't what they used to be, and I need new spectacles for close up viewing.
Time to get back out Detecting and make some dough for some cool lenses.
Keep up the good work, HH Robroy59

I got me one of those little $8.99 digital pocket scales on ebay along with a silver/gold/platinum test kit.

The scale makes sorting pennies a breeze  Great 2.5grams for zinc and 3.1 for copper.
Got scale, 6 acids, 2 stones, file, test 18&24K gold, test .999 silver grain bar and a replica gram of gold for $23 (My bid, shipping included)
I would highly recommend it to all detectorists Wink
