Hi everyone. This is my 1st post since joining. I purchased a WOT coil for my Minelab Sovereign XS-2a from Ebay last winter. I charged my batteries to full charge connected the coil and waa laa the battery low light comes on. I put the stock coil on the unit and all is well full bars across. I was wondering if anyone else gets the same result or is this puppy shorted out and I'm out 225 bucks. I still works fine but wonder what it would do at full battery capacity. Holla back I need your input.

Please write the full name of the coil and manufacturer so we can better advise you. WOT means nothing.

Ok the coil is a 15" CoilTek WOT coil, otherwise known as the Wonderful Orange Thing. It a high end after market coil thats a double D type coil. Its known for going extremely deep.

Thanks, mate. I went to the page and there's only one of the three Coiltek WOT coils listed for the Sovereign. Do you have the right one? If so, it may have been mis-wired by the previous owner. If not, it is probably wired differently for another model.

We have a member here who modifies Minelab detectors. If you ask him nicely on his web site, I'll bet he can give you some advice.

Welllll, now the rest of the history of this coil. I stated earlier it was purchased used on Ebay. The seller used his fathers account to sell the item to me. Then The boy wouldn't ship the item. The father had to go to his sons place and make his son ship the item to me. It was supposed to come with the coil cover but it never arrived. I was sorry for the father and still gave him positive feedback. For all I know its not made for a sovereign as the sale stated. It does mount up fine and it does work. I have a electronics degree. I guess I still need a clue if its wired right or shorted in some way. A pinout and ohm reading between pins of a good coil would be helpful. Please share your thoughts anyone.
Thanks Indymobiledj - Mark Mayse

Does the coil still have part number markings on it? That might help you. Otherwise, contact that web site I listed above and ask for help. He's a top bloke who will give you advice.

There are copycat WOT coils being sold as the real thing. Look at the site Golddigger
1950 refered to.

I emailed Detector Depot for advise. They are dealers for CoilTek Coils. Lynn gave me Doc's phone number at CoilTek. She says he's their tech guy and he should fix me up with any info or repairs it may need. I'll update this after I speak with him. I can't find Golddiggers link he gave me earlier and I haven't checked the coil for any numbers or markings yet. My mother inlaw is coming to stay with us tomorrow and the wife has been keeping me really busy  I don't remember any on the coil, but I'll look closer tonight. Thanks everyone for your input on this.
Well gave the coil a long once over. Absolutely no stickers or markings of any kind on it. The bottom off the coil is made of a black plastic resin. I did a
Google search for a fake CoilTek  WOT coil but saw no mention. I did a Google image of the WOT coil and the ones sold today have 2 stickers on them. Its not looking good for the home team. I'll continue this saga as more comes to light. .  Idea

Slowly but surely you will uncover the rest of the story, as Paul Harvey is known to say.

It looks like you either got a bogus coil or one made for another model. Since there are three WOT coils made by Coiltek for three different Minelabs, it might not be an easy fix for you. On the other hand, Woodie a the site where I sent you might be able to instruct you on how to rewire yours to work on the Sovereign. Scroll up to the post where I gave you the link to his detector mod site. Send him an e-mail. He might get back to you faster than Coiltek does.
