Yes, experimentation in the field really to find the best program that suits the conditions.
The XS, SE and II are really just incarnations of the same machine.
There are only a few revisions, mainly minor stuff with the menus and software.
I don't really think there's a great deal of difference performance wise between any of them.
The "pro" searchead as fitted to the SE is supposed to be a little more deep seeking and stable but as far as I can see not enough to make a great difference.
The XS is a superb machine once you get to know it properly.

Hi,
It works like a mini coil.
You plug your search head and probe into a small box then a lead from there into your detector.
You can then select coil or pinpointer.
Hold on before you buy one though as I'm experimenting with winding a probe and wiring up a 2 way box.
If it works o.k. I'll put the details on here.
Likely to cost no more than $20 - $30 to build...... considerably less than a Sunray!

I have both the explorer II and the sovereign. I recently acquired the sovereign and like the machine. If you are going to hunt near water, the sovereign is great because you can relocate the control housing. I can't do that on the explorer.  You can't go wrong with either. I will definitely be keeping both machines.
