civil war cannon balls

  back in may of 2009 i was working over a feild near the river in romney wv  an found two cannon balls and a artliery shell along with several belt buckles and many minnie balls . a friend of mine talked me out of the small cannon ball i found that day . tom thought he had it defused becouse there was a hole in it and it was hallow. he put a broom handle in it to make a tamper out of it  ( dont ask why tom is somewhat different ) but a good guy.  needless to say he broke off the handle so he put it in his wood stove in the gerage to burn it out . tom went to the house to eat supper an half way through supper he heard a big boom then he ran out side to see the back wall of the gerage was blew out come to find out the cannon ball had exploded and destrold the woodstove and blowen a hole that a man could walk through in back of the gerage needless to say be vary carfull when you handle old munisions couse thay can still be live.

toms OK he's one of those guys who get into a lot of bad luck and comes out OK all the time.
and yes lol i have not got him to go Th with me since. he treats old ammo and cannon ball with a vary tender hand now lol i would have loved to seen his face when that happend i could have won a funny video  episode with it .

he was lucky he went to get a bite to eat his work bench is right beside the stove its a metal welding table it took 4 strong guys to get it off the truck and set it in place. it was turned over and moved 6 feet. we only found small pieces of the wood stove and found several tools at least 75 feet out from the hole it blew in the wall i could walk thorough the hole and i am 5ft 11 inches tall. it blew all the glass out of the garage it was amazing the amount of destruction that  it did.he is a vary lucky man if he had been at his bench he would have been dead.

looking back yes its funny but wow
