Hi everybody,
I'm going to select a pinpointer to build.

I already successfully built by myself a VLF metal detector (whites IDX) and a PI (Stuart-1), and now I would need a good pinpointer.

Most of the projects I saw around are based on cylindrical either ferrite or air cored coils, but I wonder if the sensitivity and directivity of the magnetic field can be improved.

Is there anybody who had experience in designing new types (I mean new geometry, new type of windings, etc), with improved characteristics ?

Ferrite core works best, it also has the advantage that it's very slim.
