Working prototype with same firmware as published, can detect 10cent euro coin at about 5cm in air. Coil is 20 cm diameter, 27 turns of 0.75mm2 electrical installation wire on wood former, very robust, without shielding.
So it is not very sensitive, by treasure hunters standards, i guess. Still more like poor man's, ultra simple to build detector.
I can't do field tests outside this time of year, because of thick snow and cold weather. But i have scanned some logs for for hidden metal, for this it was perfect. This is why I got into this metal detector building the first place. Havn't done treasure hunting at all.

Hello I have built this detector but I am having trouble getting it to work I have tried different coils and capacitors and can see decaying oscillations on the oscilloscope but all the pic does is a single beep and flash of the led.closing the push switch just causes a reset of the pic ,any ideas?

Hello.
One thing that comes to mind is that the swich may accidentally be normally closed contact. Must be normally open contact. Worth to check.
Also I have updated the firmware hex file on my webpage for this project some days ago. Accidentally it was from the older version, different from the source code. Should be fine now.
Regards
Teemo

Hello. filled the new firmware in the controller PIC12F1840. does not work. then I noted in the description that the controller under this firmware has changed, and the scheme remains the same. explain the controllers to be installed on the same card, you need to change the conclusions or they compatible? scheme has changed or remained the same?  or is it just a typo but you name PIC12F1840 and PIC12F1480?

Hello popka-ru

I understand you had it working with some previous firmware version. What exactly do not work with the new version? Do not power up at all, or no detection, or something else?
The PIC and the circuit is still the same and compatible from the first version. With the name it is just a typo.

Teemo
