LOL!  NO!   You Could use a 10,000 Amp battery if you wanted to carry it.    In the Electron World  Volts is the Difference in Potential (Push or Pull).

Amps is the Amount that Can Flow!

Look as a Battery like Lake.

Look at the Voltage as the Pressure the Water fall from the Lake has.

Look at the Amps as the Amount of Water you let over the water fall.

Look at a Resistor as a Constrictor plate between the Carb and the Manifold.   LOL!

Wont too many amps blow stuff up? I mean a car battery at 750 amps compared to a detector at say 3 amps? Seems like something would have to give lol.

The voltage is 12v, that is unchangeable. The amperage drawn by the circuit is a fixed amount that the circuit needs to operate. Too much voltage and you can destroy equipment. Too much current available is harmless. Your circuit will only draw as much as it needs. Too little and the circuit may not start working at all. Thus, too much amperage is all right while too much voltage can destroy.

Your voltage is a measure of potential and your amperage is a measure of volume. A battery cannot be forced to deliver more volts but it can be made to deliver more amps if they are available. Small batteries such as AA cells are rated in Mah, or milliamp hours. A 2000mah battery can theoretically supply a 1ma device for 2000 hours. Or it can supply a 200ma device for 10 hours. The ampere rating is a maximum, not a minimum.

A device rated at 1ma can only draw 1ma as long as it is functioning correctly. Technicians recognize a bad circuit sometimes because they draw more than the rated current.

Funny enough, that's the same analogy they used in the USAF Tech School.   LOL!       Did you know Resistors are made of Oat meal and Carbon?    LOL!
