hello. i m interesting about metal detector with atmega 328, but i can t to find atmega8 or at90s2313. thatswhy i need to konw if is posible tu put atmega328 with sustitute atmega8. thanks very much. sorry for my english. i m cuban andi m learning to speek english.i want to know if  the hex atmega8 if possible to put for atmega328

the ATmega328 has 32kbytes flash, where as the ATmega8 only has 8. so it depends on the size of program being stored on the E-prom. here is a link to the two parameters etc for the chipsets.

Sergio,
Welcome to the forum. While you are waiting for answers here, jump on over to the newcomers board, then introduce yourself and tell us a little about yourself. You will boost your # of posts, and that will allow you to be able to download from the download section and upload photos of your detector finds. I am not into the Atmega chips so I can not give you a definitive answer, but I do know you won't be able to burn a hex file written for one chip into a different chip. You must have the original C or Assembly file, make corrections for the different chip, making sure you are running at the same speed as the one you are replacing. Just because they have more or less memory does not mean they have all the same features. 8-bit programs do not transfer very well to 32 bit controllers.
