Recently a metal detecting friend told me a story, it was about a metal detectorist.

One day, he was out and metal detecting in the local state forest. He has checked the map and confirmed that the site is not a private property before going out, so he never expected what would be happen.

While he was searching the ground, he suddenly heard a yell, “HEY! You are trespassing!” “No, this is not a private property, i have confirmed it by a map!”“This is my property, and you will leave!” After seeing the man handing a short gun, the metal detectorist realize that it was not wise to argue with him, so he complied. “Alright, I’ll go,” and then started to walk away.“Drop your metal detecting stuff and get off my property!” The metal detectorist was shocked and quickly realized he was been robbed. Since the guy had a gun, he has no choice but left his machine and other stuff.

When the metal detectorist got out off the forest, he called the police, he told them he was robbed while he was metal detecting, but the police didn’t believe in him and even asked if he was really trespassing. The metal detectorist tried to show the map to prove it, but the police just seem not care. The metal detectorist was so upset, he didn’t know if he could carry on the hobby or not.

I don’t know how he is now, but best wishes to him! Hope you guys won’t have such bad experience.
