Proton-precession magnetometers

Hi all,

  I have recently revised my description of how proton-precession magnetometers work; the previous version was written in 2006.  I have corrected some errors and greatly expanded the section on modern methods for determining the precession frequency.  The spreadsheets for estimating sensor sensitivity have been revised completely.  If you find any errors or typos in the document, please email me at jark@shaw.ca.  For those who do, I offer, besides my gratitude, a tiny memento of Canada.

Hi Jim,

at the moment I am looking for information about proton-precession magnetometers because I would like to buy one.

I want to search very deep (maybe 2-3 Meters) buried Gold- and Silver coins which hopefully are located inside of a Jar (with metal cap) or other magnetic containers.

I would like to use the proton-precession magnetometer where it is not possible to go such deep with Metal Detectors.

Hi All,

     A sharp-eyed reader (thanks Uwe) has found an error in the spreadsheet accompanying this document.  It was in the category for metric toroidal sensors.  The error has been corrected and the revised spreadsheet is available on the Web site mentioned.
