The data logger, even if you could conveniently add one, would record all targets as you pass over them. It would do nothing for depth or sensitivity. Those who use them are not digging targets but surveying the area for later hunting. Let's say you see a promising field and you start detecting. You will cover a lot of gound and maybe find 20 targets, some of which are junk. But if you have a data logger, a GPS system (to record target location) and a decent detector, you can cover a lot more ground and develop a map of what is out there. Metal targets will be shown but you still won't know ehat they are until you dig them. As for caches, you will have no better way of knowing if a large object is a cache or a paint can lid.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

VLF and PI are two different animals no matter what box there in.   Both work some what like RADAR  sending out a Signal and Receiving the Returned signal.    VLF is more like RADAR as it receives the Signal Return and measures the Phase change of said signal.   Echo but with more information at hand,.    PI does the same but only Receives the Echo of a Residual Signal and is more like a PING of Sonar.      One can go deep and one can tell you more.  What one do you want ?

In order to add a Data logger you need Memory  Some kind of memory,,  Hard Drive, Flash Drive or other and a Computer.  Computer is going to need some form of Analog to Digital formatting.   Some form of Converting said Information into a Visual display your brain can Interpret.
