BA, you are an awesome finder! I was just curious & checked out the e-mail inquirer - he is a WW2 detective helping families.

I've been trying unsuccessfully to send some attachments from the MACR.   I think the network I'm on may have some firewalls that are preventing me from sending the attachments.

So.....I'll just go over who the MACR lists as having been on board.  What follows is from a document in the file dated 13 December 1945.   (There are some variations of spelling in some of the other documents, but this seems to be the most consistent and official).   The numbers after the names appear to be the individuals service numbers.  Note: there are 15 military and 2 civilians.

1st Lt Oliver K Morton 061566 Air Corps
F/O William K Jobe T 6173 Air Corps
1st Lt Bernard E Fielder 0931807 Air Corps
1st Lt Harrison E Squires 0707128
2nd Lt David E O'Calligan 02061170 Air Corps
Cpl Marlan J Reed 37538187 Air Corps
Cpl Samuel Mehrman 42000743 Air Corps
Cpl Samuel Klink 32912120 Air Corps
Sgt Seymour J Stanger 32866364 Air Corps
2nd Lt Walter H Nelson 0876335 Air Corps
Major Edward A Ciobban 0503275 FD
Capt William Moncrieff 0665218 Air Corps
1st Lt Henry Elvik 0854622 Air Corps
Capt John M Weaver 01280967 branch unknown
Cpl Milton S Tyler 37709612 branch unknown

Mr Homer C White, Courier Div, State Department
Mr T Katzenstein, affiliation unknown, passport number 91209 revenue ticket number X 395867 (other documents list his first name as Theodore).

The last two pages of the file include the next kin (with addresses) for the 15 military personnel.

BA

While we're waiting for the answer regarding where to post the doc's, here is some more information on some of our passengers:
Captain Weaver and Corporal Tyler (listed as branch unknown) were members of headquarters North African Division ATC (Air Transport Command)---1250-AAF base unit......basically they were involved in ferrying planes from one location to another.

Capt Moncreiff and 1st Leiutenant Elvik were headed to Johannesbur South Africa so they could mary a couple of sisters, Joan and Pat Roelofsz in Booysens, Johannesburg.

Mr H. Brasser, a long time resident of Liberia, may play a role in our investigation....He was advising Lt Nelson's father on steps the government should take in the search.   He also claims to have written personally to the President of Liberia.   It is possible that he may have search for the plane AFTER the official searches were over.

(BTW, the MACR refers to Casey Jones Project aircraft.   Operation Casey Jones was the aerial mapping of Europe and Africa by specially outfitted surplus bombers

BA, Hardluck, Sue,

I send you a post but it did not go through as the doc?s were too big .
Thanks that?s all 17 occupants and not just any one either with a Major on board it must have been quite an important flight (and so the plot thickens) I have downloaded three documents as they explain the search party that was to go to look for them there are a load more but I?m having problems with my PC but as soon as I get it sorted out will continue with the download there must be over 30 of them Hardluck I take it that you are reading this we have not found the plain yet but we have most of the information concerning it. I will see if in the documents that I have not read yet if there is a mention of the load that they were carrying minus the occupants and fuel should give us an idea of the gold and silver.

Best regards
Xavier

BA those are the doc's that I want to post to you
The one with the search party I have the letter

This is becoming such a cool war time DC-3 type treasure hunt and I'm amazed at what you and others have found, Xavier.

Down at the attachments below, it says 1M is the maximum size on here in the posts. What format are they in right now? Sue

You have enough posts to allow you to post them in the Downloads area. This section is probably the best fit. Use Legendary Treasures or the WWII section.

Oh thanks, GD. Awhile ago, I suggested the downloads area, but I've never used it so I wasn't sure and deleted the post.
