Hmmmm might be fake but, go with "Y"mark....go in direction of right top part of "Y".  I would try
1. 1832=14=5     feet, yards, etc. and detect
1. OR 182 feet, yards, etc.
Look for another tree or rock in area that points to same direction of Y

Why you ask that RO you know he was and Billy the Kidd, Nixon, Goldwater, and Charley Manson. I can email you the whole list if you want.

I ask because this is the Knights of the Golden Circle section......so, I would assume the tree carving is in reference to such? It is hard to tell the rhetorical posts from the misguided souls posts without a program

I don't know if you will see this but we are finally on the same page. Davy Crockett KGC, Barry Goldwater KGC, I would love to see your whole list. I have a few verified KGC members myself... Marilyn Monroe for sure! Bill Richardson, The Aliens admitted him to the KGC in the basement of the Capitol building. They have a hard time doing that secret handshake with those long fingers but they get by.

What state did you see it in will also indicate it being a fake not to mention unless the tree petrified I dont think it could last some 200 years, it would have been well rotted away or you would still be able to find Washingtons Tomahawk boundaries on all the land he staked his claims on, as well as everyone elses in the Ohio valley on down into the Kantuck. Thats if you were lucky enough to survive the Shawnee warriors during the time period before the 1800's
