I know this will probably cause some stink, but I've got a problem.  I have tons of info about very influential players in the Civil War and kind find NO PROOF that any of them were connected to the KGC or "copperheads".

Belle Boyd, C.J. Faulkner, Alexander Boteler, S Howell Brown, Andrew Hunter, Roger Preston Chew, Rose Greenehow, John Yates Bealle, etc. This name reads like a who's who of Confederate intelligence and espionage agents before and during the war.  I have tons of family connections and interesting Masonic information "John Mosby was inducted into the brotherhood at Martinsburg VA during the war", but absolutely nothing connecting any of these people to anyone affiliated with "KGC".

Not trying to offend anyone- I hope someone out there proves me wrong, but it seems the KGC circle is a little too small to be of any real influence and this is mostly hype

That's because the KGC is an fantasy  group invented by 20th century dreamers.
Its hard to hide treasure if you never had any and the Confederacy had little money by the end of the war, if they had don't you think they would have bought guns and bullets to  fight with?

Amen there Seldom, I have seen lot's of research on this subject through the year's , and all the so called info out there does not tie into the actual civil war period, it all starts years later after the civil war. Even though some try to make it tie into the civil war it really does not. there are however a few small caches out there that do relate to the civil war. but nothing like the legends tied to the KGC etc.

Good Luck and Happy Hunting.

i have to agree ya'll  if it was as influential as they say it must have happened to late to matter much i was amazed how many (they say) who ever they is . were involved in it from my state of Indiana wich was not a total union state  in the history of my township area which enlisted  more  UNION soldiers then most of the state .  there were those who werent so supportive since the folks who first settled here  were north carolinians and virginians   some research i have done on this time period  says there was desention in the town and those who were southern supporters /sympathisers  just withdrew or kept their views and politics secret to their circles so i bet this went on in a lot of places it could have been big but not cordinated very well  i have come to the conclusion  and seldom  you can say i told you so  cause  you did.  but  my opinion is about the same as ya'lls  hype

The facts are the Confederate Treasury was only half a million bucks when it went missing and of that all but 130,000 has been accounted for. The pseudo-history folks want to rewrite history to fit into their beliefs but with a little common sense and logic all their hypothesis can be shown to be wishful thinking.

The numbers used in the legends would be a lot more believable if the buried loot was in inflated paper currency.....but every tale specifies gold and/or silver.....and there just wasn't anywhere near enough of that in the South---otherwise Confederate currency wouldn't be held in the low esteem it was by both sides.   The vast majority of gold and silver that might have been in existence in the South, certainly was NOT in the Confederate Treasury and the people weren't turning it over to the government like good little patriots and true believers in the cause.  Check out the following (one of many articles available on inflation in the Confederate States of America)  .

GR I will never say I told you so but will point out when I think you are buying into the fantasy dreams that so many KGC hunters post as fact.
Are there cache's connected to  the Confederacy and post war southern supporters? Yes dozens of them if not 100's, but they are small not millions and millions stuffed in treasure rooms allover the country. Which  the US Government knows about but instead of recovering them they built collages over them to keep them hidden. That's what a lot of the KGC hunters would like for you to believe.

Greetings...during your research phase, keep in mind that the Knights of the Golden Circle (KGC) and the Confederate States of America (CSA) were not affiliated, allied, associated with and never worked with each other. Never...not at all.

If your research shows somebody was CSA....you can rest assured they were not involved with the KGC.

Good luck on your quest, RO
