This VLF induction balance metal detector has a ground balance mode, 3 TR discriminate modes, and push-button tuning. It was published in the March, 1980 issue of ETI, a popular electronics magazine that is owned by UK publisher Wimborne Publishing, Ltd.

Looks like it's pretty good, however current draw might be a problem.
