Here is a pulse induction metal detector by Mark Stuart that is fairly basic, and is the predecessor to Mark Stuart's Microcontroller PI detector project. You can also find some strong similarities with the GoldPic project. It was published in the August, 1989 issue of Everyday Electronics, a popular electronics magazine that is owned by UK publisher Wimborne Publishing, Ltd.
Note: The original schematic had the bipolar transistors drawn incorrectly. This has been corrected.
