A very nice cross / religious medal. These were foten sold during or prior to wars in order to raise money for the military. Despite the poor quliyt of my pictures it shows some very nice details on both its  front and back side.

Hello Dean!

Yes! All the markings can be read when teh corss is wet. I will have to rub it with a bit of oil. Thsi will raise the its contrast.

The inscriptions are still really nice. It's just damaged a bit on top.

I love finding those.

Try rubbing a little white powder on it, something like baby powder.  It may help....sometime rubbing white chalk on an item then rubbing off the "high" spots helps.

The rubbing is an excellent idea!

Thank you! I should have known that as I usually also do rubbings of signatures on my Japanese swords.

Again a very good hiint. Thanks!

Also on brass items...rub a small bit of damp sand...really brings out the detail.
