I browsed over the Field Museum link here and was amazed by the great gold exhibit now showcasing at the museum. I'm planning a visit and if you all have a chance go and visit as well. The exhibit is up till March 11, 2011. Here is a sample piece from the exhibit. It is a $20 double eagle bullion. Here is some info from the FM site and a pic attached

American Double Eagle
Until 1850, the largest government-issued gold coin was the $10 ?eagle.? Then the mint created a $20 gold coin, called the �double eagle.�

After the U.S went off the gold standard in 1933, 455,500 uncirculated double eagles were melted into bars. Two coins were donated to the Smithsonian Institution, but others were stolen from the mint. The Treasury Department located and destroyed nine, but a tenth was recovered in 1996 and auctioned in 2001 for more than $7 million, making it the most valuable coin in history.
