I was going to try out some gold panning this spring and was wondering when the panning season was or is.  I've cheked many ID websites and they really don't explain if I could just go out and pan all year round or if it is a specific season for it.  A little help please.

Welcome to the site.  You might try using the search feature in the upper right hand corner of the page, or you can go to one of the boards here that is Idaho specific or gold prospecting specific.  More work to do unfortinately.  Or you may get lucky and one of our guys from Idaho will see your thread.  There is a Boise Gold Prospectors club also that will know alot and they actually have claims you can go to.

Ooops..just saw where you posted.  Um,,er.....good luck.  Don't forget about the club in Boise.

There is no specific season with a couple of caveates

If you are working a river there may be times you cannot disturb the gravels for fish spawning, and some rivers are off limits to any dredging.

The location you wish to work will dictate when you can access it. Usually there is snow and runoff which can hamper activities.

Some people spend the nice weather gathering concentrates and pan them out at home during the colder weather. Good hunting!

Thanks for the information.  Yes, cold weather can hamper the situation, but then again you would be out there before everyone else.  I think that I'll wait for at least the spring run off to clear everything out and maybe wash something up for me.
