WOW! And I thought Tree People were a problem.

Things are getting tight here with the Environmental, Fish and Game, EPA and all.

The worst are the Folks living on the 42nd floor in New York city backing up the crap and have NEVER EVER been there.

It's gotten bad!

You go to any state park and you hear crap like.

"What are you DOING?

I'm Looking in the river!

But Your Standing On the Grass!!!!!  "

Well chaps, I'm confident that I've beaten the bureaucrats with their own rules. In Wales and England a man is only free if he understands the laws of the countryside. Fortunately, the bureaucrats didn't understand their own rules. I'll be back at my favourite spot in March, no fish eggs for anyone to point fingers at. Anybody want to help me move a few boulders?

Cheers Homefire. I will probably have to put up with quite a bit of sniping from the usual suspects, but it will be worth it and they will get fed up in the end. I will resume my place as a tourist attraction in the area. The press and BBC haven't yet responded to my response to their very inaccurate/unresearched reporting. So much for the BBC's good reputation. I'll contact various schools and invite coach trips to visit me for free tuition. Welsh children will learn what the various authorities don't want them to know. There is enough gold in the rivers for anyone tough enough to look for it.

The unfounded rumours about tonnes of bedrock being removed by one panner (me supposedly) as well as destruction of wildlife and general mayhem have been spreading far and wide in various news sites and forums. Thankfully Mike Jones, a very experienced Welsh panner is backing up my viewpoint; unlike Vince Thurkettle the former World Gold Panners Association President and his rival Kit Andrews, who both went along with the officials who helped start the rumours, so they could again sell their expensive courses. See the link on the Fish & Fly forum below.

Mike is a really great guy, and the picture shows him directly in front of the area where I was panning last year. No doubt he is a bit disappointed about the behaviour of Vince and Kit, who have effectively banned themselves by capitulating and collaborating with the misguided officials. Can't wait to see their faces when I get back in there. I'd like to move that big tree branch which is blocking the river, as it must be hard for fish to get over the massive gravel bank it is holding back. Panners can help remove these obstructions, as fish and other species do need a helping hand sometimes. I'm waiting for volunteers to help me out.

Go Up Go Down

Hi John, I look forward to seeing you up there, near Dolgellau. My favourite spot about 50 yards upstream of a small stone bridge on the Afon Wen, in the Coed y Brenin forest. I'll find the streetview map on Google Earth, which has a picture of one of my buckets below the bridge (and my van), to give you an idea of the scene. Very easy access. First I need a few weeks to work up through a raised gravel bank to the tree branch (it is a lower bole which split from the main trunk) which rumour has it was an entire tree which I dug underneath and felled by hand to make a dam. Blimey, I wish I was so strong and accurate! It might be better to dig under the tree first, get behind it so I can't be observed by a stream of curious tourists or locals. They all invariably shout from the bridge, I can't hear them of course because of the noise of the water, but some come down and shout 'what are you doing'. I have to patietly explain the situation to them all, so it would be nice to get some peace behind the branch for a while. But after I get past it about ten yards it might be better to move it, as this will lower the water level on one side so it isn't too deep for pumping.
