Have you tried clearing out the cache? You might want to try that since it can become corrupted and cause the program to misfunction. (Uninstalling does not impact the cache.) Delete it manually as described in this article:

google maps has now updated some areas to a street level view. This is awesome because you can actually see the place as if you were standing there.
