There?s a lot of clubs about, and a good way to get local knowledge and some detecting is to join the local museum verein (Frowned upon by most mainstream archies)  Great
However, as already stated, without a permit, it?s still basically illegal, and the mainstream archies are responsible for giving them out, and they don?t like to issue them to metal detectorists in general in most counties, POINT !!
I?ve tried for over 10 years to get one, and I record my finds and hand them in, but they still won?t issue me one, and there are hundreds if not thousands more like me out there.

I don't have much time for them these days. I did in the early days of the tours but after so many lies and BS I gave up.

Like most people, but the archies give us the run around to then say, "LOOK, they are detecting illegaly, even though we issue permits" !! Try getting a permit, in theory you CAN get one, but in practice very few are issued one  Undecided

I am really concerned that throwing a wet blanket over metal detecting in Germany is closing off some great places to detect. Again I posted a German Metal detecting site and club for you to find ut about the active metal detecting going on in Germany.   Sorry some feel it's a bad place ot detect... Better for those of us that do so beleive what you will...

Meanwhile Great Britain is becoming more and more restrictive. I've always felt that part of me would rather find something historic and be noted for it. There needs to be some law regarding finds and acknowledgements similar to authorship...  A usurping Archeologist or institute would find themselves in court if the did not acknowledge my contribution in unearthing a given find...

Germany is a great place to detect. So long as you are at least "Semi Legal", ie you at least show your finds to the local Museum Verein, or better still, become a member of it, and get permission form the landowner to be on his land and detect, then most Polizei (Police) will turn a blind eye to your "(IL)LEGAL activities"  Wink

My advice: running a detecting tour is like having children, rough the first couple of years, easier after that. Keep it legal, keep it straight (as in don't plant finds like some do in England) and keep an open mind. I'm on my third year doing it, can't say I regret it. E
