garrett vlf tr deepseeker
« on: January 31, 2016, 08:30:12 am »
Go Up Go Down

Hello I am new here.
I had a garret ads deepseeker yesterday.
Last owner changed the vlf pot himself but the old one is absent.
There is a 22k pot on it. I have found schemating in this forum. And I think i is a 30 k pot.
But I am looking at the sites there are different model pots.
First two photos are mine.
The original is from the internet.
It has dark background and there are three bright dots on the backside.

Common Pot's.   Just order a replacement from Mouser or other.

The last time I changed one of those out it was a 25k 10 turn potentiometer. Not standard at all. Call Garrett and ask them to be sure, like Homefire suggests.

I think it is a "Wirewound potentiometer"
Last owner said it is endless turning left or right.
I sent an email to the distrubutor.

It is not wirewound. It is a 10 turn potentiometer. When I find out the value for you today, I will find the part for you and let you know how to do the repair.

I want to make e deepseeker battery board repair topic, is possible.
I have took photo of mine and anyone may clone to a pcb board and put into the battery grip.
Espcially old batteries may be corrosive.

From the garrett official site:
"This is a very old VLF/TR ADS Deepseeker and we no longer have parts to support the repair of this metal detector.  I do not have any suggestions for you other than consider talking with a Garrett dealer in Turkey about buying a new metal detector.
Best Regards,"

It is a must to buy a new one?

The only ten turn pot on that machine is the Ground Bal.     Have you measuered it ?  Just because it has no End Stops does not mean it no good.

Hang in there. I'm waiting for a return call from tech support. As far as I know, your original owner thought that since the potentiometer didn't run up against the stops it must be broken so he replaced it. What you need is to know the exact value so you can replace yours with a 10 turn potentiometer. They do nto have stops like an ordinary pot. They turn and turn and turn. Presuming this is for the ground balance, you should still be able to use it even as it is. You just won't be able to ground balance it easily until you get the right part.

Did you think I didn't know that? The only question is what value is it. All of Garrett's machines with ground balancing use the ball bearing pots which are 10 turn pots.
