Ah ok thanks for the clarification. I agree genuine swords of the 1800s can go for a fair sum of money for sure! I am hoping $200 would be a great deal and could get my money back easy. My only problem is that if it is not from the late 1800s and instead the late 1900s I could drop a fairly large sum of money. Do you guys think this is a repro or newer version of a sword or do you guys think its the real deal?

Don't  be too worried coz that might be worth quite a bit.   A Chinese copies sell for a fair bit

Definitely a commemorative sword. If it was used for fighting it wouldn't have the writing, and the blade would not be blunt.

A bad day at gold prospecting or metal detecting is better than a good day at work.

Do you guys think I should go for the $200? I agree meant for decorative and symbolic purposes only due to writing. If this is the late 1800s as I suspect this would make sense because swords like this one were becoming more and more useless due to more modern weaponry coming into play.
Thanks!
Beau

Yes, you should go for it.   Current regulation swords cost more than that and don't make nearly as nice of conversation pieces.
