Hello All
The Great Wall of Peru.
When we think of the concept of great walls erected to keep the barbarian hordes at bay from the civilized world. We think of the Great Wall of China or The Roman Hadrian?s wall in Britain. However there is another country that has a great wall that is little known that stretches for hundreds of kilometers over deserts and mountain ranges. It is the Great Wall of Peru.
The wall first officially discovered in 1931 when an aerial survey flight discovered the significance of the find. Excavations date the mud brick wall to the culture between the Inca and Mocha cultures about 800 hundred years ago. Archeologists suspect that wall was built by Warri culture in Northern Peru who had an empire as nearly as big as the Inca Empire and last for over 400 years only to be conquered by the Inca Empire whose own empire crumpled after 100 years by Francisco?s Piazzaro?s invasion of 1532.
The wall built of mud brick varies in height along its length, has ruins at intervals of small enclosures assumed to be small forts. Its history is a mystery and perhaps among the length of wall many caches to treasure lie buried as Northern Peru was the most prolific region in regards to gold. The local natives had made many illegal diggings over the years.
The region is well known for fine gold wrought objects, mainly found in the pit tombs in the deserts of the coast such as legendary discovery of the gold hoard of the king of Sipan.
