Go Up Go Down

A seller has contacted me about selling this sword that was presented to his father (who was in the U.N.) when he was stationed in Chili some 30 years ago. I have no clue on the age or authenticity of the piece. I have found similar examples reading "Ejercito de Columbia" but none reading "Republica de Columbia". I believe the grip is a post 1822 style but unsure???  Does anyone know the retail value of such a piece? I think the item is very interesting and would love to own it but don't want to get ripped off and don't know enough about it to feel comfortable putting in an offer.
Thanks so much!  Grin
Beau

Thanks homefire for the response, I think this applies to many but not all swords? But if there is a mark it would defiantly help me with the age of the piece. Any other comments? does anyone know a forum or individual that would know what this is? Also thanks for that interesting link homefire!
thanks,
Beau

in 1886 the country was declared as the republic of Colombia so that dates it post 1886... it is to my understanding the country suffered occasional civil wars called the most recognisable and bloodiest being the Thousand Days' War which was fought between liberals and conservatives. Is it possibly from this conflict?

My Uncle had A Sabre Like that in As New Condition and you are looking at $1000 Upwards, I would just clean it and Put it Away some where safe.

wow ridge runner! so I might have to jump on this deal! Did your uncle ever tell you anything about it as to its age or who would have used it? and did his say republica de Columbia or "Ejercito de Columbia" as I have found examples of  Ejercito de Columbia
but not for the writing on this example.
Thanks so much!
Beau
