If your going to be Scuba or Hooka diving while detecting or otherwise, be advised that you need to deploy a dive flag on a bouy that you tow around above you. This is necessary, as otherwise you?re liable to get hit by boats, surfboards, jetski?s and all manner of other water craft.

The dive flag can either be the red square with a single white stripe going across from a lower corner to the diagonally opposite, or the standard A flag, either is acceptable.

Do however be carefull when ascending even when using these flags, as some people like to use them (Mostly surfers and jetski?s) as turn bouys.  No no!

I built my own hooka and only used it down to about 10 feet maximum with a scuba buddy. I built a split regulator system for it and we started using it without him using scuba. He liked it so much I left it with him when I left Virginia in 1981. We used to detect underwater swimming sites with it. I had a huge weight under it to stabilize it and keep it from turning over. I had to add more weight when I added a flag, but add it we did. Later it occurred to me that the flag didn't HAVE to be attached to the hooka. Doh!

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.
